A member of the Parliament of RepublikarnSrpska invited us to a cafe justrnopposite the government building. Hernwas from Doboj, from the purely SerbianrnOzren hills range. The Dayton dictaterngave half of it to the Muslim-Croat federation.rnThe town of Doboj, severelyrndamaged by Muslim and Croat artillery, rnwas overflowing with refugees fromrnOzren. The Bosnian Serbs do not likernthe troops of the French Foreign Legion, rnwho engaged in black marketeering, rnthe smuggling of arms to Muslims, andrnthe illegal transferring of Mujaheddinrnand Turkish officers through the Serbianrnlines. They respect the Spanish soldiers.rnLuka Popovic explained how thernMuslims cheated during the last electionsrnin Bosnia and Herzegovina. Fromrnthe registered Muslim voters, just 103rnpercent voted! Andrnthe American, Mr. Frawick, didrnnot argue at all. If we [the Serbs]rndid it, he surely would declare thernresults invalid. When we voted forrnour president, Mrs. B. Plavsic gotrn59 percent of the votes, the Muslimrncandidate, A. Djozie from thernIzetbegovic SDA party, got 17rnpercent. In our Serbian parliament, rna sixth would be representedrnby Muslims. In the Muslim-Croatrnfederation, no Serbian candidaternachieved anything similar, no Serbianrnpolitical party was t h e r e . . . .rnThe officials from Sarajevo are tryingrnhard to prove the existence ofrnthe nonexistent ‘Bosnian language.’rnIt is really funny, becausernit is just the Serbo-Croat language, rnwith a few Turkish, Arabic, andrnPersian, often quite garbled wordsrnadded, to prove the 500 years ofrnTurkish reign.rnThe most popular personalities of thernRepublika Srpska are still Dr. RadovanrnKaradzic and General Ratko Mladic, rnsymbols of the Serbian fight for survival.rnWe met many people, and almost all ofrnthem had the same opinion. The WarrnCrimes Tribunal at The Hague is consideredrna political affair, an extended arm ofrnAmerican interests, supported by a totallyrnone-sided database of the Tribunal.rnMost of the documents about the crimesrnagainst Serbs in Croatia, Bosnia, andrnHerzegovina were repeatedly “lost” onrntheir way to The Hague Tribunal. Suchrna Tribunal cannot be fair. The unlawfulrndetention of two high-ranking Serbianrnofficers, released after many weeks, rnproved it. One of them. General Djukie’,rndied of cancer a few days later. When inrnjail, he was without any proper medicalrntreatment.rnPeople find the Tribunal similar to thernmonstrous trials during Stalin’s era.rnMr. Goldstone is seen as similar to thernSoviet prosecutor general, A. Vyshinski, rnwho “according to law and justice” sentrnthousands to death. Fighting, destruction, rnand deaths are the consequences ofrnthis civil-ethnic-religious war, where nobodyrnis innocent. Why did The HaguernTribunal not indict Mr. Izetbegovic, whorndid not hesitate to kill his own people inrnthree staged explosions in Sarajevo, rnwhose men killed thousands of Serbianrncivilians all over Bosnia, all around Srebrenica?rnMr. Tudjman’s armies exterminatedrnthousands of Serbian civilians inrnKrajina, in western Bosnia and Herzegovina;rnthey repeatedly overran thernU.N.-protected UNPA zones and expelledrn200,000 Serbs from Krajina—andrnnobody indicted him. During the war almostrnone million Serbs were expelledrnfrom their homes—who did it? Whosernmoney destroyed the multiethnic Yugoslavia?rnMany Western diplomats (e.g.,rnAlbright, Holbrooke, Kornblum, etc.)rnpractice the purest form of “gunboatrndiplomacy”; they are often arrogantrnwhen dealing with their opposite numbersrnfrom Republika Srpska.rn”Welcome to Pale, to the SerbianrnSarajevo!” Dr. Karadzic greeted us cordiallyrnduring a private visit to his study, rnwith a map of Yugoslavia behind therndesk, along with two or three icons.rnWhy, he asked, rnhave we not the right of self-determination,rnso aggressively given tornothers? It is just unbelievable howrnthe Western media portrayed us inrntheir absolutely one-sided, biasedrnapproach—out of ignorance andrnfor money. For this reason, we appreciaternthe courage of those whorndared to tell the truth.rnDr. Karadzic is a well-known, prizewinningrnpoet as well, and he gave us twornautographed books of his poetry.rnAt Han Pijesak, deep in the woods, isrnthe supreme command of the army ofrnRepublika Srpska. General Milan Gvero,rnGeneral Mladie”s deputy, welcomed usrncordially. During our discussion with therngeneral and his staff officers, coffee andrnplum brandy {slivovica) were served.rnAmericans, he explained, rnhave over Bosnia and Herzegovinarntwo spy satellites continuously—rnthey “see” even the license platesrnof ears. During the four years ofrnflight controls, the NATO planesrncarried out more than 100,000rnflights and supplied all the informationrnto the Muslim and Croatrnmilitary. Nevertheless, our resourcefulrnmen managed to outwitrnthem repeatedly….rnThere is one fact that I mustrnstress to you. Do you rememberrnthe massacre at Markale II on Augustrn28, 1995? It was staged by thernmen of Izetbegovic. Our intelligencernhad reported two days beforernthat explosion that somethingrnterrible was going to happen inrnSarajevo. And within two days therntrigger-happy Americans and theirrnNATO servants started their attacksrnon our military and civilianrntargets. They must have knownrnthat all that was just a provocation, rnbut still they used it as a pretext tornattack us, in collaboration with thernground forces of Croats and Muslims.rnThe anti-Serbian disinformationrnmade monsters out of usrnagain, and changed the course ofrnwar. NATO became a direct ally ofrnMuslims and Croats—and thernmighty America started a cowardlyrnfull-blown war against a handful ofrnBosnian Serbs.rnThe Americans are bringingrnhuge quantities of sophisticatedrnnew weapons into Bosnia andrnHerzegovina, and they are trainingrnboth the Muslim and Croat troops.rnIsn’t a new war being prepared?rnRetired elite American Army generalsrnplay the role of mercenaries.rn. . . It is not the way peacemakersrnbehave. Why must we and ourrncivilians keep the war industry inrnfull swmg.-^rnI remembered again the soft-spokenrnvoice of his Beatitude the patriarch; “Irnexperience the suffering not only of ourrnSerbian people, but of our Muslim andrnCroat brothers as well.”rnRajko Dolecek is a professor of medicinernat the University of Ostrava in the CzechrnRepubhc.rnJO SIlESCEIStrn40/CHRONlCLESrnrnrn
