interest has eeascd to determine when, rnwhere, and why “we” deeide to sendrntroops, why sliouldn’t the United Nations, rncomposed of delegates for whomrnno American ever voted, decide such affairsrnfor us? For that matter, since thernUnited Nations as yet has no soldiersrnunder its own command nor any moncvrnof its own with which to recruit and armrnthem, why shouldn’t American soldiersrnenforce whatever it is the court eunuchsrnof the new empire decree? And whyrnshouldn’t we get used to the idea thatrnproviding the military power for thern”New hnperialism” will be our principalrnrole in the future? Moreover, andrnthis is another consequence of the NewrnWorld Order and the empowerment ofrnthe Lhiited Nations in a form independentrnof the nation-states that created it,rnwhy shouldn’t the Security Councilrnsomeday deploy its own troops againstrnus?rnWarlords in Somalia may somedayrnlook pretty tame compared to the warriorrnkings who lead the Crips and thernBloods in Los Angeles, and the chaosrnthey may someday cause would providernat least as good a reason for the NewrnWorld Army to show up in South-CentralrnL. A. as we have for sending our ownrntroops to Mogadishu. So, for that matter, rnwould American “racism,” mistreatmentrnof women and children, standardsrnof health not up to the snuff ofrnthe World Health Organization, environmentalrnproblems, or any of the scadsrnof derelictions perennially invented byrnthose of the managerial elite whose businessrnit is to concoct “problems” thatrnthey can then “solve.”rnSo far, most Americans seem to bernfairly passive about what One Worldersrnhave in mind for them, and perhaps, asrnlong as too many of us don’t get killed, rntaxes don’t increase too much, and itrndoesn’t preempt the sit-coms too often, rnmost of us will go along with it. But thernirony is that in most of the world, evenrnas Mr. Boutros-Ghali, Sir Brian, Mr.rnJohnson, and their party announce thernend of national sovereignty, nationalismrnis thriving and aspirations to nationalrnindependence, political autonomy, andrncultural identity are flourishing. It is thernresurrection of just such assertions ofrnnationality and group solidarity that isrnthe real wave of history, and it is thernconflict between those who exhibitrnthem and the emerging global elite thatrnseeks to suppress and supersede themrnthat constitutes the real line of politicalrnand social struggle in the coming century.rnThose assertions and the conflictsrnthey engender may be dormant in thernUnited States today, but sooner or laterrnthey will awaken, and when they do, thernnightmarish fantasy of a unified andrnhomogeneous planet will scatter like thernstraw it is.rnThere are many ways to give to educational and charitable organizations suchrnas The Rockford Institute, publisher of Chronicles: A Magazine of AmericanrnCulture. Most people make direct gifts, which result in a “charitable deduction’rnfrom their taxable incomes.rnAnother option is to establish a Charitable Remainder Trust. Assume, for example, that a person boughtrnstock years ago at a cost of $20,000 which now is worth $50,000 and pays 3 percent in dividends. One way tornlock in the current value, avoid capital gains tax, and derive more income would be to create a CharitablernRemainder Unitrust. Pay-out percentages could be set at from 5 percent to 8 percent, and the funds placed inrnsecure income-producing investments. If the trust earns more than the agreed pay-out, the additional money isrnadded to the trust so that its size increases. Upon the death of the donor or his beneficiary, the trust wouldrnbecome the property of the Institute or other charities of the donor’s choice. Estate taxes are eliminated, andrnthere is a sizable charitable deduction in the year the trust is established. The amount of the charitablerndeduction depends on the age of the donor and the income retained.rnMichael Warder, Legacy Program, The Rockford Institute, 934 North Main Street, Rockford, IL 61103rnI Please send me general information on “Planned Giving” options.rnI I Please send me information on the Institute’s Charitable Remainder IVust Fund.rnNAME_ ADDRESS,rnCITY^ STATE_ ZIP PH0NE_rnIf you have a specific asset, such as stocks, that you are considering for a contribution, and if you would like the Institute to evaluate the financial taxrnimplications for your gift, please include the following information:rnSS#_ .
